Gerald 'Shorty' Poynter, 61, of Rt. 7, Crawfordsville, died Tuesday in Methodist Hospital at Indianapolis. He was a farmer and had been a Farm Bureau Insurance agent.

Mr. Poynter was a member of the Browns Valley Christian Church and a graduate of Russellville High School.

Born Aug. 28, 1916, he was a son of Paris and Dean Poynter. He was married to La Verne Grimes on May 4, 1939. She survives.

Also surviving are two sons, Vaughn and Mitchell, both of Crawfordsville; a daughter, Mrs. Larry (Starlet) Powers of Rt. 7, Crawfordsville; and six grandchildren.

A brother is deceased.

Services will be at 2 p. m. Friday in the Browns Valley Christian Church with the Rev. James Boudouris and the Rev. Frank Bunn officiating. Burial will be in Hebron Cemetery. Friends may call at Powers Funeral Home at Crawfordsville after 2 p. m. Thursday. The body will lie in state in the church one hour prior to services.
